Samson shared the biggest mistakes people make when decorating their first home — and how to avoid them yourself.

Don't base your entire decor on one piece of furniture
Samson told us that an easy mistake to make is when customers buy a piece of furniture and decide to decorate their home around it, rather than having a solid idea in the beginning.

“I find a lot of people go and pick random items, like a side table that they really like, without thinking about how it all works together, and then it can be very challenging. I'll have a lot of customers panic, saying "I really like this, but it doesn't work with this".

To prevent this from happening, it's worth creating a mood board with your dream decor before buying any furniture.

Rushing the process can lead to regret

"Design is not meant to be rushed, especially these days with furniture that sometimes takes up to a year to arrive," said Samson.

"I think people are starting to panic and just buy whatever's available... In two years, you're going to say, 'Why did I buy that?' he added.

Samson said patience is crucial and recommends sticking to what you really want.
