How to measure a corner sofa

To measure properly for a corner sofa you need five minutes and three things: a tape measure, paper, and one correct decision about the corner side. Measure the two walls, keep 10 centimetres off the wall, check doors and the lift, and the sofa that arrives will be the sofa you imagined.

The side: the step that goes wrong most often

«Left» or «right» corner is always judged as you face the sofa, not as you sit on it. This is where most ordering mistakes happen, across the whole market. If in the photo the long part (chaise) extends to your left, it is a left corner. Keep that as your rule and you will never mix it up.

Before you start (2 minutes)

Paper, tape measure, pencil. Note doors, radiators, sockets. Done.

Step 1: Choose the side

Look at the sofa from the front. The part that extends (chaise) is: on your left → left corner, on your right → right corner.

Step 2: Measure your space

  • Wall 1 length: ____ cm
  • Wall 2 length: ____ cm
  • Leave a 10 cm gap from the wall.
  • Note obstacles (door/radiator/column).

Step 3: Check the sofa's size

  • Long part (width): ____ cm
  • Side/chaise: ____ cm
  • Depth: ____ cm · Height: ____ cm

Step 4: Comfortable distances

  • Sofa → coffee table: 35–45 cm
  • Walkway: ≥80 cm

Step 5: Will it get into the house?

Measure doors, stairs, lift (width × height). If it is tight, ask for a solution in pieces or with removable legs/armrests.

Quick size guide

  • Small living room: up to 250–260 cm
  • Medium: 260–300 cm
  • Large: 300+ cm

If it does not fit through the door

Do not cancel the dream in a hurry. Most corner sofas arrive in pieces that pass through a normal door, and on many models the legs or armrests come off. Measure the door's diagonal too: a piece often passes «upright» where it will not pass flat. And if in doubt, send us your measurements before you order, we will check them with you.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing up the side (judge while facing the sofa).
  • Not measuring doors/lift.
  • Jamming against the coffee table (keep 35–45 cm).

Notes block

Frequently asked questions

Why a 10-centimetre gap from the wall?
So the fabric breathes, the curtain falls properly, and the backrest does not knock against sockets and skirting.
How far from the TV?
Around 2.5 to 3 metres for the usual 55 to 65 inch screens. Measure from the seat, not from the wall.
My living room is small. Does a corner sofa fit?
Often yes: there are corner sofas up to 250 centimetres that seat more people than a sofa and an armchair combined. See our sofas for small apartments.
