Microsuede care: cleaning, everyday use, and how it lasts

Microsuede is the most forgiving fabric for everyday life: soft like suede, but made of dense synthetic fibres that clean easily and stand up to families, children and pets. Caring for it takes just two things: gentle regular vacuuming and a quick response to spills.

Why it is the most practical sofa fabric

The dense weave does not let liquids pass through straight away, so a juice spill that gets wiped quickly usually leaves no trace. There are no loops for claws to catch, which makes it one of the best choices for homes with cats. And it holds its colour well, which matters in bright, sun-filled Cyprus living rooms.

The weekly routine

  • Vacuum with the upholstery nozzle on low power.
  • Brush gently in one direction, so the pile stays even and does not develop shiny patches.
  • Air the room, to reduce the static that attracts dust and hair.

Stains: water or dry cleaner? Read the code

Check the furniture's care label: the letter W means cleaning with a water-based solution (water and neutral soap), S means a special dry-cleaning solvent only, and W/S means both are allowed. In practice, most everyday stains on microsuede come out simply: blot immediately with a dry cloth, apply a minimal soap solution tested first on a hidden spot, clean a slightly wider zone so no «ring» remains, let it dry naturally and brush in the usual direction.

Oils and cosmetics: the only real enemy

Greasy marks, like cooking oil, creams and sunscreen, need a different approach: do not spread them with water. Lift off the excess, sprinkle a little baking soda to draw out the grease, vacuum it up and then clean the spot. If the label allows S, a mild dry-type cleaner finishes the job, always with a test first.

What to avoid

  • Bleach, alcohol and strong solvents.
  • Stiff brushes and hard rubbing, which polish the pile shiny.
  • Hairdryers or direct heat for drying.

Frequently asked questions

I can see «shadows» on the seat. Is it ruined?
No. It is just the pile pressed in different directions. A gentle brush in one direction brings it back.
Is it waterproof?
No. It is stain-resistant, not stain-proof. Reaction time makes the difference.
Does it suit a home with a cat?
It is one of the best options: with no loops, claws have nothing to catch, and hair lifts off with a lint roller.

You will find microsuede on many of our models, like the Portofino and Estella corner sofas, and across the Corner sofas collection. For natural fabrics, see our linen guide. Want to feel it in person? Book an appointment at our showroom.
